There are five fantastic golf courses
close to the property and to help you decide where to play this is a short
review of them.
Casa Escocesa
is
located near the La Marquesa Golf Course at Ciudad Quesada and it is a
short drive to the golf course, club house and local restaurants
and bars. So for a great game of golf followed by an excellent meal out,
you won't have far to go. However, all of the courses reviewed
are within a 10-20 minute car journey from the property and are all very
accessible for a day out.
As well as the La Marquesa Golf Course at Ciudad
Quesada, golf courses in the area include: Villamartin, Campoamor, Las
Ramblas, Golf La Finca.
I would suggest early tee times, if possible, as these courses get very
busy in the golfing season. This could save you up to an hour on a round of
golf. A handicap certificate is required for all of these courses.
La Marquesa Golf is our local course
and
Casa Escocesa
is
only a short drive away from it. The course itself is situated in a
valley between two hills. The attractive setting with wide greens,
lakes, streams and obstacles, make play extremely enjoyable and suitable
for players of all levels. Clubs and trolleys are available for hire
from the golf club and there is a Pro Shop if you need to stock up. The course
is always in tip top condition
and the weather is usually hot in summer and warm even in the middle of
winter some people say it is an easy course, one to get yourself ready
for the more demanding courses in the area but it was upgraded bringing
more water into play, accurate tee shots are required, and with quick
greens, well placed bunkers and the longest par five on the Costa
Blanca, judge for yourself.

Villamartin golf course is a championship
golf course and host to many major competitions. The
golf course is about 15 minutes drive from
Casa Escocesa
.
Clever use of natural contours, an abundance of fairway olive
trees and well placed bunkers, make this a challenging golf
course for players of all abilities. The difficulty of the course lies in having to avoid a natural
precipice and several water hazards. The Par 3 ninth with a tee
shot over a lake, provides an impressive backdrop. It is the oldest golf course on
the Costa Blanca and has hosted the Mediterranean Open. Say no
more. Well worth playing.

Las Ramblas
golf course is without a doubt one of the most
challenging golf courses in the area. The
course is the shortest and demands both accuracy
and thought at all holes. High tees, narrow
fairways and ravines feature strongly on the
course. The first hole a 341m sharp dogleg right
of a par four sets the tone. You can either
gamble and drive over a rocky hillock or play
safe by taking an iron, aiming for an area
straight ahead but leaving a lengthy second
shot. Although this is a short course it is a golfing experience
not to be missed. Built around two ravines, with
small greens and a number of blind tee shots,
you will need your best game to score here.
Bring a bagfull of balls with you.

The Real Club de Golf
at Campoamor is only about 20 minutes' drive
from
Casa Escocesa The course itself
is about 100m above sea level and is
bordered to the south by the Tagus-Segura
Canal. The 18 holes run through two
connected valleys, surrounded by gently
undulating ridges, which protect it from the
wind and create a special microclimate,
which allows people to play all year round.
The front nine are fairly open, but fast,
well protected greens are just waiting to
catch the unwary. The back nine holes are an
all together more demanding proposition as
they wind through steep sided hills.
Marvellous views over the Mediterranean. A
long open course, usually in pristine
condition, is a must to play. Although you
can spray your tee shots a little, the
greens are large and very three-putable! The
clubhouse is palatial. One of the best in
Spain.

La Finca golf
course is a relatively new course, which
opened in about 2002 it was
designed to host top tournaments and has
possibly the greatest variety of greens
of any course in the Costa Blanca. Lakes
with running water and reed beds make it
a particularly attractive course and add
difficulty to the game. The course has
become the home of many migratory birds
and the lovely backdrop of olive and
palm trees give the whole golf course a
distinctly Mediterranean feel. Well
recommended by our golfing customers and
tapas at the club house are a must. At over
7000yds this is a course to test even scratch golfers. With large greens and bunkers and water on many holes this is a superb course and a must for the player with a lower handicap.
